Graham Fitch – International pianist, pedagogue and adjudicator

‘I was struck from the beginning by his enormous enthusiasm for music and his determination to learn and to succeed as a pianist… He is forging a growing reputation as an inspiring and effective teacher.’

I taught Michael the piano since he was a youngster at the Centre for Young Musicians in London. I was struck from the beginning by his enormous enthusiasm for music and his determination to learn and to succeed as a pianist. He progressed in leaps and bounds. Michael always had an enquiring mind – he was keenly interested not just in music for the piano but in the orchestral and chamber music repertoire, about which he became extremely knowledgable. When he came out to Cape Town for postgraduate work with me, his enthusiasm and dedication to his craft had in no way diminished and he applied himself unstintingly to his work, practising for many hours each day. Michael is capable of producing excellent performances of large-scale works. He is forging a growing reputation as an inspiring and effective teacher.
