‘His love and passion for music along with his energy and laughter always make lessons both fun and insightful, providing them with the perfect balance between being enjoyable as well as educational… The most valuable lesson he has taught me is that it is not only about playing the notes, but more importantly about playing the music.’
Dr Low has only been my piano teacher for a little over three years, yet in that space of time I have improved greatly on the piano and learnt so much from him. My piano playing knowledge has been expanded in so many different ways – ways that I didn’t even know existed before Dr Low became my teacher. His love and passion for music along with his energy and laughter always make lessons both fun and insightful, providing them with the perfect balance between being enjoyable as well as educational, and this balance can often be hard to find. I’m lucky to have found Dr Low when I did!
He also has a vast knowledge of repertoire and when I am learning a new piece he often provides examples of other pieces which use a similar technique, which I have found very helpful and also informative, as by doing this he not only helps me improve my playing but also adds to my background knowledge of music in general. Over the last three years I have played a wide range of different pieces, which have all varied in skill and character, therefore teaching me many different techniques which will help me immensely in the future. I like that with Dr Low I always have a choice in the pieces I play, as this allows me to enjoy playing more and even enjoy practicing!
Dr Low is always incredibly supportive, and has guided and prepared me well through my Grade 6 and 7 ABRSM exams. He has also been supportive of my composition, an area of music which I have only recently started exploring, and always inspires me to carry on with writing music. His support is just what I need to give me that extra push and get motivated to continue.
Another thing I love about Dr Low is his chatty personality, as our lessons always involve humorous conversations and Dr Low has an amazing laugh! I always leave my lessons happy and smiling. I get on very well with him as he is a very easy person to be around, which also makes lessons more enjoyable and something I often look forward to.
I have loved playing the piano with Dr Low and have learnt so much from the few years I have spent with him, and hope to learn even more in the future. The most valuable lesson he has taught me is that it is not only about playing the notes, but more importantly about playing the music.
